where area billiards players medal at N.C. Senior Games
Three Hendersonville men again won medals in the annual North Carolina Senior Games billiards tournament, which was held Nov. 16 in Cary.For the second straight year, Steve DeWolf took the gold medal in the 75-79 age bracket. It was his third medal in Senior Games billiards tournaments.Also for the second year in a row, Michael Robbins captured the silver in the 70-74 age bracket. He has won numerous awards and medals in Senior Games and other billiards competitions.Ernie Groce, competing in the 85-89 age division, won the gold medal. Last year he earned silver.To reach the state tournament, players must medal in the local tournament sponsored by the Hendersonville Parks and Recreation Department and held in May at Fat Cat’s Billiards in Arden.
This year’s state tournament was set for late September but had to be rescheduled for a later date because of Hurricane Florence.North Carolina Senior Games has been the largest senior Olympic program in the nation for more than 30 years.
