GREENSBORO — Swimmers from the North Piedmont Aquatic Club (PAC) competed in the 31st annual Powerade State Games of North Carolina this past weekend at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. In all, members of PAC took home 55 award medals including 18 gold award medals in the short course event.
“The meet had a new format this year with different events offered. All of the kids had fun swimming some shorter events that are not part of regular meets,” said PAC Coach Leah Tunstall.
In the 9-10 year old girls division, Kaci Collins finished 6th in the 200 yard freestyle, 7th in the 100 yard freestyle, 8th in the 50-yard backstroke, 8th in the 50 yard breaststroke, 8th in the 200 yard individual medley, 9th in the 50 yard freestyle, 9th in the 100 yard freestyle, and 10th in the 50 yard butterfly. Teammate Cierra Soriano finished 6th in the 100-yard breaststroke, 9th in 50 yard backstroke, 10th in the 100 yard freestyle, and 11th in the 50 yard butterfly.
For the 11-12 year old boys division, PAC’s Jackson Graves earned a silver award medals in the 50 yard backstroke and a bronze award medals in the 200 yard freestyle. Graves also finished 4th in the 50 yard butterfly, and 6th in the 100 yard freestyle.
In the 11-12 girls division, Claire Hull finished 4th in the 50-yard breaststroke, took 5th in the 100 yard breaststroke, 8th in the 200 yard individual medley, 9th in the 100 yard butterfly, 9th in the 100 yard freestyle, 12th in the 50 yard backstroke, and 12th in the 200 yard freestyle.
For the 13-14 year old women’s division, Cassidy Hull earned a silver award medals in the 50 yard backstroke along with bronze award medals in the 50 yard breaststroke, 100 yard breaststroke, 100 yard individual medley. Hull also finished 4th in the 200 yard freestyle, 4th in the 200 yard breaststroke, 5th in the 200 yard individual medley, 6th in the 50 yard freestyle, and 13th in the 50 yard butterfly.
In the 15-16 year old women’s division, Hadly Tucker took gold in the 50 yard freestyle, 50 yard butterfly, and 100 yard individual medley while also collecting silver in the 50 yard backstroke and 100 yard butterfly. Tucker added a bronze in the 100 yard backstroke while finishing 6th in both the 50 yard breaststroke and 100 yard freestyle. Julie Hicks took silver in the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard freestyle while earning bronze in the 50 yard backstroke. Hicks also finished 5th in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events, 7th in the 50 yard butterfly, 8th in the 100 yard individual medley, and 9th in the 50 yard breaststroke. PAC’s Abby Bruce took gold in the 50 yard backstroke and 200 yard butterfly while finishing 4th in the 100 yard backstroke, 5th in the 50 yard freestyle, 6th in both the 50 and 100 yard butterfly, 9th in the 100 yard individual medley, and 11th in the 50 yard breaststroke. Sara Collins earned a silver award medals in the 50 yard freestyle and also placed 4th in the 100 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke, and 50 yard butterfly. Collins finished 5th in the 100 yard butterfly, 100 yard individual medley, and 50 yard breaststroke while taking 6th in the 200 yard freestyle. Avery Tucker earned a silver award medals in the 100 yard freestyle and a bronze award medals in the 50 yard butterfly while finishing 4th in the 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard butterfly, and 100 yard backstroke. Tucker also placed 5th in the 50 yard backstroke, 6th in the 100 yard individual medley, and 8th in the 50 yard breaststroke. Gracie Pruitt captured gold in the 100 yard breaststroke and also earned a bronze in the 200 yard breaststroke. In addition, Pruitt took 4th in the 50 yard breaststroke, 5th in the 50 yard butterfly, 6th in the 50 yard backstroke, 7th in the 100 yard individual medley, and 9th in both the 100 yard backstroke and 50 yard freestyle. PAC’s Carly Bullington finished 6th in the 200 yard breaststroke while placing 7th in the 100 yard butterfly, 10th in the 50 yard breaststroke, and 11th in the 100 yard individual medley. Katie Sidden finished 7th in the 200 yard breaststroke, 8th in both the 50 and 100 yard butterfly, 8th in the 100 yard freestyle, 8th in the 50 yard backstroke, 10th in the 50 yard freestyle, and 12th in both the 50 yard breaststroke and 100 yard individual medley.
For the 15-16 year old men’s division, Hunter York earned a bronze award medals in both the 50 and 100 yard butterfly while also placing 4th in the 100 yard individual medley and 100 yard freestyle. York finished 5th in both the 50 yard backstroke and 50 yard freestyle while finishing 7th in the 200 yard freestyle and 10th in the 100 yard backstroke.
In the 17-18 year old women’s division, Sydney Beck earned gold in the 50, 100, and 200 yard backstroke along with the 100 yard butterfly. Beck also captured a silver award medals in the 100 yard individual medley and 100 yard freestyle while finishing 4th in both the 50 and 200 yard freestyle events. Mikki Nunn earned a gold award medals in the 50 and 100 yard breaststroke along with silver in the 50 yard backstroke, 50 yard butterfly, and 200 yard breaststroke. Nunn also claimed a bronze in the 100 yard individual medley and finished 6th in the 50 yard freestyle. Sarah Shapiro took 4th in the 100 yard breaststroke and finished 5th in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle along with the 200 yard individual medley.
For the 17-18 year old men’s division, Nolan Gilliam took gold in the 50 and 100 yard butterfly while earning a silver award medals in the 50 and 100 yard backstroke. Gilliam also earned bronze in the 100 yard individual medley, 50 yard breaststroke and 100 yard freestyle while finishing 5th in the 50 yard freestyle.
In the 19-29 year old women’s division, PAC’s Kelsey Tunstall, a rising junior on the Campbell University swim team took gold in the 50, 100, and 200 yard backstroke events along with the 100 yard breaststroke. Tunstall took silver in the 100 and 200 yard
freestyle along with bronze in the 100 yard individual medley and 100 yard freestyle.
Ashley Hicks, a rising sophomore on the Mars Hill University swim team earned silver in the 50 yard backstroke and 50 yard breaststroke along with taking bronze in the 100 yard backstroke. Hicks also finished 4th in the 100 yard butterfly, 50 yard freestyle, and 50 yard butterfly while placing 5th in both the 100 yard individual medley and 100 yard freestyle.
In the men’s 40-49 year old division, Lee Beck claimed a silver award medals in the 50 meter freestyle.
“Congratulations to all of the PAC swimmers who participated in this great meet,” added Tunstall. “It is always nice to compete alongside adults who still swim in competitions. It definitely makes an impression on our kids.”
